Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis voiced skepticism about President Trump’s negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, arguing that the apocalyptic regime is motivated by ideology and not reason.
The Sunshine State governor warned that “trying to cut a deal with Iran” is “hazardous,” and emphasized that Tehran is “not a traditional country” that can be treated in a “traditional way.”
“I don’t see them as being good faith actors and in any way, shape or form. And the reality is they cannot be allowed to enrich uranium, period. End of story,” DeSantis told conservative radio host Mark Levin.
“They are a militant Islamic government. Their view of mutual destruction with nuclear weapons is actually something they think would be fine because they think they’re all going to go to heaven in paradise if that happens.”
DeSantis contended that, unlike the Soviet Union, which believed a nuclear war was “not very appealing,” Iran’s leaders feel that such an exchange with Israel could be “doing the will of Allah.”
Earlier this year, Trump penned a missive to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei telling the Ayatollah that he wants to see a deal to resolve the nuclear issue “very soon.”
In 2018, Trump withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) negotiated under the Obama administration which he labeled as "disastrous". However, according to many reports his administration appears to be negotiating an "agreement" with the brutal terrorist regime which repeats many of the same fundamental flaws as his predecessor. The Iranian regime has a decades long history of repeatedly violating its international commitments, including those set forth in the JCPOA. The JCPOA turned out to be a joke of sorts as it was premised on the notion that Iran can enrich uranium for "peaceful purposes" when Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu revealed the Mossad's acquisition of a warehouse of documents in 2018 clearly documenting Iran's longstanding nuclear weapons program.
Notably, back in March, Trump's Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard told the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran “is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003.” This so-called intelligence is offensive to Iran watchers and contradicts the dire warning of the Secretary General of the International Atomic Energy Agency which has warned repeatedly that it can not assure Iran's nuclear program is peaceful given Iran's long history of impeding its inspection and verification efforts. Additionally, it is known (i) that Iran has enriched enough near-weapons grade uranium for multiple bombs; (ii) Iran has been engaging in computer modeling relevant to nuclear weapons development and (iii) Iran possesses a growing arsenal of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads. We are not sure what planet Ms. Gabbard is living on or what motivated this particular piece of intelligence but it certainly puts into question her credibility.
Trump on Wednesday, confirmed reports that he warned the Israeli prime minister not to attack Iran during negotiations. “I told [Benjamin Netanyahu] this would be very inappropriate to do right now because we’re very close to a solution,” he said. This has sparked even greater concern and outrage among those familiar with the Iran file.
"He is playing Russian Roulette with Israel's very existence" - cried one passionate observer - "and jeopardizing the security of our children and the free world".
"What is he thinking" questioned another. They aided al qaeda in 9/11. They have been at war with us since 1979 - They murdered our Marines and maimed our soldiers. They have attacked our critical infrastructure and planned assassinations and large scale terror attacks on our soil. They financed, trained and weaponized Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. To this day the Supreme leader unites his followers to chants of "death to America" - and is developing intercontinental ballistic missiles with the goal of attacking the American homeland. There are brave freedom-seeking Iranians who have risked life and limb to try to restore Iranian democracy. Why would we ever give these monsters a lifeline?"
